This morning Mrs Ganner took the butterflies back to our school garden.
One of the butterflies flapped its wings and then it landed on her finger! Another one flew off high up in the sky.

All 3 butterflies have been happy sipping the sugar water and the fruit in their enclosure. They love to sit in the net Mrs Ganner put inside.

This morning I woke up to find 2 butterflies had emerged from their chrysalises overnight.

The Caterpillars are having an Easter holiday too!

Over the past three weeks we have been watching caterpillars grow. They arrived as teeny tiny caterpillars and two days ago, after growing a lot bigger, they climbed uop to the top of their pot and started to make a chrysalis. Theyre hanging from that lid on a chrysalis station in Mrs Ganner's house!
Here's what they look like now and over the Ester holidays Mrs Ganner will post updates so keep checking back to see what will happen next. (The children have been learning all about lifecycles and they know The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle so if youre not sure just ask them).

To celebrate Easter and the start of spring, Nursery had an Easter bonnet parade which was a huge success. Parents and loved ones gathered on Wednesday morning to watch the children march around the playground wearing their homemade Easter themed hats.
The children also sang Easter and Spring action songs with the grown-ups. Some of them even joined in!
Well done to the children for making such fabulous bonnets! It made the Easter bunny very happy!

Today nursery have been taking part in different games for Challenge Friday. They have been using their knowledge of number to play dominoes and following instructions to play twister. They have had lots of fun!

Nursery's favourite part was looking at the fake snow using all their senses that the scientist made and popping the giant bubbles. The children were all very excited!

Nursery had a fun-filled Red Nose Day. They designed a funny face with a red nose, played musical statues and played the 'keepy uppy' game with red balloons and enjoyed playing a traditional game of twister too.

We have had a fun-filled World Book Day by celebrating our love of reading in Nursery. This morning we got comfy and listened to stories with our grown ups and the teddies, we have made puppets and this afternoon Y3H came to read us some stories.

This week a visitor left us a note asking us to look after some ducklings. The problem was we didn't have any. A farmer called Jeff appeared on Tuesday afternoon with an incubator, brooder, heat lamp, food and a water dispenser. He also had 5 eggs.

This week the pirates visited our Nursery. They sailed in on a giant ship and brought treasure and books and clothes for us to learn with.
This morning we realised the pirates had taken all of their things back and they'd stolen our learning from the boards!
We think they've buried the treasure on a sandy desert island. Can you follow the the trail on our treasure maps to find the treasure? Two of the children even created a pirate treasure island in the fiddly fingers area.

This week in Nursery they discovered a pirate ship in the outdoor area and a big jolly roger flag. The children were very curious as to how it ended up in our playground and had lots of questions to ask. This week we have been learning about under the sea and what animals live there and what a pirate does. The children have enjoyed role playing in the pirate ship and walking the plank. They have also had fun taking part in a floating and sinking challenge and creating their own pirate hats and flags.
A polite reminder that we are a nut free school. Please enure that you do not send your child to school with any snacks etc containing nuts of any kind or nut products in their packed lunch as we have some pupils with severe allergies.

Today in Nursery, we celebrated children's mental health week by holding a 'dress to impress day'. The children were invited to come into school in something that expresses them. The children came dressed in their favourite clothes or national dress. In our circle time, they talked about the things that they like and their favourite food/toys and the clothes that they were wearing. They also learnt the makaton sign for 'favourite'.

In Nursery this week we have been talking about different types of weather. We went outside to see if we could hear and feel the wind. We worked as a team and had lots of fun making objects to use on windy days. This is what Nursery said when we asked them about their learning:

This week in Nursery we celebrated Chinese New Year early. We dressed up in traditional chinese clothes, we read a non-fiction book all about CNY. We also cooked chinese food in the home corner and practised using chopsticks. This is what some of the children said when we asked them what they had learnt:

We have been learning about Winter in Nursery. We've been finding frozen blocks of ice all over our provision. Yesterday we received a letter from some penguins, asking us to help them get free from the ice that they were trapped in. We planned experiments in our key worker groups to work out how to free them.This morning there was snow all over the outdoor area but no trapped penguins. This afternoon we found the penguins frozen in ice outside, next to our water tray, so we sprung into action!
Mrs Ganners group poured warm water on the penguins and it melted the ice.
Mrs Blakeley's group banged the ice with a hammer to break the penguins free.
Mrs Wyment's group got a bucket and put in some warm and cold water. After that, they put the penguins inside the bucket and waited.
Ms Marley's group put the penguins in a tray and put it outside and waited for the sun to come out.

We have had a lovely first few days back in Nursery. On Wednesday, we went into our Nursery garden to look for signs of winter using our senses. The children noticed that the weather was colder and there were no leaves on the trees. When we came back inside we talked about how we can keep ourselves warm. These are some of the responses from the children.

As part of our ‘Friday Challenges’, we have been using our senses to explore the new winter resources in the classroom. We also used our fingers to roll small, medium and larged sized balls using the playdough to make snowmen! Finally, we used our subitising skills to subitise to 3 (when we are able to look at a small group of objects and realise how many there are without counting).

Today we have taken part in Diwali Day, learning all about how Hindu people, and some Sikh people, celebrate Diwali.
We read books, watched videos, learned how to dance, wore traditional clothes and tried to create Rangoli patterns with sand. It was very tricky to sprinkle just a little bit of sand.

To continue our learning about poppies, this afternoon some children followed Steps to Success to create a painted poppy or a craft poppy. These were our choice challenges. Not everybody chose to make one to support autonomy over our learning. Some children created their own challenge and used the mark making materials to draw their own poppy.
The teachers said we had created some beautiful artwork.

This morning we learned about why we use the poppy as a symbol for Remembrance Sunday and what this day is. The children were facinated by the video we watched. They cheered loudly when the poppies started to grow again after the war. This video is a great way of talking about Remembrance Sunday with young children. Would you like to watch it too?
Our faces reflected the different emotions we felt as we watched. The children were so excited when the poppies started growing they cheered.
"Make it go away," said one child during the war scenes. "A shining light!" excalimed another as the darkness parted. "It's growing up," one child told us as the poppies grew in the field

We really enjoyed learning about bonfire night, naming different types of fireworks, learning a new song and creating artwork to put in our learning books. Do you know a song about fireworks? this is the one we learned

Yesterday we found some paw prints on our Literacy book stand. We thought it was odd because there wasn't a book! We followed the paw prints to a basket that was left in the shared area. There was a cat, a pair of shoes, a guitar and a pair of cool sunglasses. Who sent them? It was a mystery until today, when we found a brand new book. We learned all about Pete the Cat and how much he loved his white shoes. It was a fun story, he kept stepping in things and it changed the colour of his shoes. Do you know how he made them white again?
