The Boy at the Back of the Class Chapter 8

Good afternoon year 6! What a lovely day it is. Well here is your final instalment of the story for this week and I think it is starting to get really exciting. This chapter is very long and to be honest I found it quite tricky reading it all in one whole recording!! Sorry for any mistakes I made, I was getting slightly distracted by my tortoise scratching away next to me. I think he likes the story too!

This is my favourite part of the week!
Firstly, I want to thank you ALL for all of your hard work this week. You have all been superstars!

Good morning everyone, another lovely sunny day! I can't wait to get out there in the sun for a bit.
Fot the last day of the week I'm giving you a slightly different wellbeing challenge today and it's something that always makes me feel happy and a bit better if I'm feeling a bit low.
Today's challenge is to do something nice for someone. Here are some ideas below although feel free to do one of your own ideas!
1. Read or tell a story to a younger brother or sister
2. Tidy your room
3. Do a chore or job for someone at home
4. Give someone a compliment
5. Share a toy or some food with someone at home
6. Make someone a present, picture or card
7. Offer to help an adult with the cooking or washing up
8. Write someone a poem or story
9. Tell someone a joke
10. Phone a friend or send them a nice message
See how many of the 10 you can do and remember to let us know what you have done!
I'm going to do some baking for my husband for my good deed and maybe make him a nice dinner as well. In fact, I might go and take him a cup of tea while he's doing his work! :-)

Can you believe it’s already Friday? This week has flown by and we have loved getting back onto the blogs and seeing all of your amazing home learning! Check back on the blog later and we will have our very own Year 1 celebration of all the fantastic things you have been doing at home!
Sentence of the day
Here are some pictures of children who managed to find the nouns in yesterday’s sentence. Well done! Here is a picture of the sentence with all of the nouns underlined. Remember a noun is a person, a place or an object.
Today’s sentence is going to have a little bit of everything we have done this week. I want you to find ways that you can make my sentence better. It might be missing capital letters, it might need some question marks. Maybe you could add some adjectives in before the nouns to make it more interesting.
Phonics
I loved seeing your phonics activities from yesterday. Watch the tricky word video again to check if you can remember them today …
Today’s phonics focuses on the oo sound family.
In your home learning packs you have some games and activities which all focus on the oo sound family. There are also lots of games on https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/ (your username and password is in the home learning pack) Use these activities as a start point and then I have a challenge for you.
I want you to design and make your own game. The game must be all about those oo sounds. You could have a snakes and ladders game with different oo words on the different squares. Maybe you want to write down as many words with the different oo sounds in them and play a game of snap or pairs. You could even play oo sound bingo!
I can’t wait to see the games that you have made! Just remember they must have the oo sounds in them!

Good morning everyone! I just cannot get over this consistently sunny weather we're having! I think we might have a little BBQ this evening, and Livvi really wants to do some baking. We've found a recipe for rhubarb pots that she'd really like to try, and we're very lucky because we have some rhubarb growing in our garden. Maybe I'll post a photo of our baking results later!
We'd love to hear what you're getting up to today, and we LOVE seeing photos of your learning from the daily activities - watch out for the blog post later on today celebrating that brilliant learning!

Happy Friday everyone from Miss Brookes!
I have to say from reading these posts, baking does sound quite appealing! Though my brother has kindly been doing our essential shopping for us and his 'substitute' items for something like flour, would be something you can't even bake with, knowing my brother! I've got all of the equipment and none of the ingredients - Oh well, I will ask and we will see what turns up 
I get so excited when my phone pings and it's the year 5 email with all of your fabulous work - well done everyone, I can't wait to see what else you get done while at home!
I have also had a go at one of the Connected Curriculum challenges. My mum has a free app on her IPad called 'Happy Colour by Numbers.' It gives you different pictures, and an array of colours. Every time you click on a colour, it highlights the area that needs to be coloured in - and then you tap on it and like magic, the colour appears! Each day there's a daily challenge, and on Wednesday my Mum said "this one looks a little bit complicated, can you do it for me?" Being the wonderful daughter I am, of course I offered to do the painting! Little did I know, it was going to be a Space painting of the Solar System! I've attached a picture of it for you all to see, as well as a video where you can see a speeded up version of how I painted it!

How are you all today? It is supposed to be a warm, sunny day, why not take your learning into the garden today...?
Today we want you to think about the minibeast learning that you have already done so far this week. We have listened to the text 'Mad about Minibeasts,' you have been on a minibeast hunt, you have created some minibeasts using natural things from your garden and learnt about the different parts of a minibeasts body.
Using the animals from the text 'Mad about Minibeasts' we want you to pick your favourite insect and make a model using craft ideas or playdough. Look at the challenge sheet attached to this blog for more information. We have also attached the playdough recipe that was in your home learning packs. You may want to use playdough that you may already have.
We can't wait to see your favourite minibeasts in a creative way!!!

Hello all!
I have received a few emails regarding extra work/ activities for the children which is absolutey brilliant to hear! I thought I should share a few of my favourite websites with you that you might like to use at home to help you through this possibly difficult time.
Maths
There is a website called tes.com that you are able to sign up to for free. The site has amazing maths acivity sheets that you can print off if you think your child might enjoy completing extra tasks. If you do not have a printer do not worry, you can always look at the activity sheets on your device and write down the answers down on paper/ a work book.
English
There is a site called literacy shed that I love using with the children. At the moment, it is free to use and you do not need to sign up. You are able to choose any short video and there are lots of different writing/ art activities below each video to keep the children entertained and most importantly keep them writing.
BBC Bitesize
At the moment, BBC bitesize have daily lessons on their websites for KS1 children. There are lots of different subjects on there and they look really interesting!
TTRockstars
I know a few of you have been struggling to get up the correct time tables up at home. I have had a look at my TTRockstars and have been able to choose the 10, 5, 2 and 3 times tables. I have attached the 'parent sheet' for you to see how to use it (it is tricky to understand at the start I must admit).
Don't worry, none of the extra websites are complusary but I thought I would share them with you in case you find them as useful as I do :)
