Apple Bobbing Halloween Fun

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 8:02pm

To learn about how people celebrate Halloween, we had lots of fun bobbing for apples this afternoon. It's very tricky and we needed to be patient and also very careful. Holding the apple in your teeth at the end was both funny and very rewarding.

Sports Day 2018

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 7:44pm

After our first sports day was cancelled due to the fabulous Manchester weather, we finally got to show off our physical skills to our parents this morning. We have been practicing with our teachers so we could run the relay, complete the obstacle course, play the parachute game and ride the bike track using imagination and skill and of course doing so safely. Oh and don't foret the amazing fun run our adults joined us for at the end! Afterwards, we invited our grown-ups in to cool down in front of the whiteboard with a mindfulness Go Noodle session.

Choosing Autumn Crafts

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 7:35pm

When we are learning, our teachers think it important that we have choices about how we create representations of objects we are learning about. This week we have we spent time choosing from lots of different craft activities. We could choose to create a leaf owl, a popcorn tree, a harvest hen and a clay hedgehog. Some of us chose to make all of these things! We also decided it would be good for us to display some our our work too, on the seasons board in Miss Wolfenden's classroom

Sean the Super City Coach

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 7:26pm

On Fridays we are very lucky to have Sean visiting us. He plays games and helps us to use our imaginations to improve our Physical Development skills. The best bit is that even if it's raining, we don't stop our sessions because of our awesome new Physical area. Take a look at some of the games we played today.

Autumn Salad

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 7:21pm

To continue our healthy food choices, today we created our own Autumn Salad by tasting and talking about what we had eaten. We were very adventurous, trying new and interesting foods that we don't usually eat at home. This is an important part of our learning - to try new things and have a go.

Yummy Harvest Soup

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 7:09pm

Today we created a yummy and healthy favourite - Harvets Soup! Using a variety of seasonal vegetables and some seriously safe knife skills we cut, cooked and then ate our very own creation. You can see how much we loved it.  If you want to know how, just pop in to class and ask us laugh

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 5:18pm

My first ever blog. Watch this space for my weekly update.

What an amazing afternoon I have had today teaching maths in year 6.

The children worked really hard to secure their understanding  of negative numbers.

I wonder what we will succeed at next week????????????

Challenge 5HC!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:52pm

How long would it take you to complete the blank multiplication square? We are working on developing our multiplication fluency this year and this challenge is a great way to practice!

Have a go at home!

Bridges Launch!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:52pm

We have been investigating bridges as part of our CC topic.
For our lauch we were given this brief:

Which of our bridges do you think worked?

Peace at last!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:49pm

We had a story delivered to our school by a secret visitor. We read the book and it was all about Daddy bear being kept awake by lots of different sounds. We thought maybe we had been given this book because we have been learning all about our sounds.

We acted out all the different sounds in the book. Can you guess what action we are doing?

Times tables

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:48pm

In year 4 we are having a real push on children learning their times tables and division facts and we need your help at home! We are starting with 4,8,3 and 6. Please try and learn them at home and include the division facts. The children need to be really quick when they recall the facts. We will be having 10 minute practice times every day in school and a test each Friday where they will be able to achieve a bronze, sliver or gold level certificate. Remember repetition is the key! Keep on learning.

Did you solve the problem?

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:44pm

Have a look below at 5HC's amazing reasoning with area. They worked out that in order to solve the problem they needed to find the area of the different squares.

For example a square with 4cm sides would have an area of 16cm2.

After that they worked out the area that the rectangle would be and then put some squares together to find possible lengths of the side of the rectangle. They knew they had to be able to divide the total area by the length of a side exactly, and checked that.

Oliver said "When we put the 15x15 square next to the 18x18 square we got a length of 33cm and found this was a factor of the total area and that the other side had to be 32 cm, so we rearranged the squares until we had made that rectangle"

Have a look at our solutions!

Super sentences!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:44pm

We have been thinking about how to make our sentences super!

We know we need:

A capital letter

Finger spaces

Segment the sounds (use our phonics)

Get a sound mat to help

Stretch out all of the sounds

Full stop

Free Nelson Mandela!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:44pm

This term we are going to be learning about Nelson Mandela in our Connected Curriculum lessons, so to get us prepared we have been listening to the song 'Nelson Mandela' by the Specials and have been creating our very own dance moves to match.

Can you make a bridge using spaghetti and marshmallows?

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:33pm

We had great fun launching our new topic, "Why are bridges built in different ways?" last week.

The challenge was to build a bridge - using only spaghetti and marshmallows - that could hold the weight of the car for at least 10 seconds without falling over. Have a look at the photos to see how successful we were! (answer: not very!!)

FIRE!!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:31pm

FIRE! FIRE!

In 1666 there was a huge fire which destroyed most of London. We learnt it started in a bakery on pudding lane.

For our launch we made bread. It was delisious, maybe we will all be bakers when we are older.

Times Tables!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:31pm

This year at Ravensbury we are thinking about developing our times tables. We will be practising our tables in a variety of different ways. One of the ways we can practise is by using a range of online games and activities.

Click on the links below to practice! All of the activities work on a laptop, some may not work on a tablet.

In Year 3, we are learning the 3, 4 and 8 times tables and revisiting the 2, 5 and 10 times tables from Year 2.

Get labelled!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:29pm

We've been learning all about the parts of the body. We had to stick labels on our friends for each part of the body. It was so funny!

Can you solve this problem?

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:26pm

We have been investigating the area and perimeter of different shapes. Have a look at the problem below and try to solve it! We will show you our reasoning in a later blog!

Nine squares with side lengths 1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15 and 18cm can be fitted together with no gaps and no overlaps, to form a rectangle.

What are the dimensions of the rectangle?

Don't let them trick you!

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:24pm

This year we have been practising tricky words during our phonics lessons, we have really enjoyed listening to songs to help us learn how to spell.

If you want to help us with our spellings at home the links to our favourite songs are on this page.

Mayan Food Launch

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:21pm

To launch our Mayan topic we tried some typical Mayan food. The children were really brave and even tried the chillies that were on offer! The enjoyed the chocolate even though it was dark. They were excited to find out that he Mayans were so in favor of corn that they even had their own  corn god!

Why Can't we Just Eat Chocolate?

Date: 14th Nov 2018 @ 4:21pm

We asked 'Why Can't we Just Eat Chocolate?' to help the children in Year 2 learn about taking care of their bodies.

We launhced our topic with chocolate tasting and learning where chocolate came from.

The children learned about what to eat and comapred the sugar in popular foods. They experimented with exercise and learned about the impact on our bodies. They even made their own fitness videos!

The children learned about keeping themselves rested and clean as part of a healthy lifestyle. We went back in time to learn how Florence Nightingale changed hospitals.
