Amazing Maths Games!

Date: 3rd May 2019 @ 2:01pm

Year 5 were set a challenge - they had to invent a game to help other children develop their knowledge of shapes. As you can see from the images there were lots of brilliant examples!

4NS came in to test the games - and they thought they were fabulous!

THANK YOU FOR COMING!

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 5:03pm

We would just like to say a huge big thank you to all the parents that came in to school this morning to help us create a minibeast. We understand that it's not always possible for you to come if you have to go to work or you have an appointment, but we love it when you can share in our learning.

Here are lots and lots of photos so you can look at and enjoy the experience we had...

Writing about what I like to play with

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:57pm

"Look I made a model and did the writing for it!"

Phonics Eureka Moment!

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:54pm

"Miss, look these three sounds altogether make the word 'sat' - s a t."

Singing our Phase 2 phonics song can sometimes produce lightbulb moments in our learning.

Exploring a Minibeast Garden

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:50pm

It's so much fun reading and exploring and observing in our indoor Minibeast Garden.

Minibeast Science Lab

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:47pm

If you would like to learn more about minibeasts, come in to class to read the information in our science lab, or look at the minibeasts climbing the grass, crawling on the ground and flying about in our Minibeast Garden.

Can you create a minibeast?

Date: 2nd May 2019 @ 4:41pm

Here are the resources you might want to use to create a minibeast.

Which minibeast will you make? What shape will it be? What colour is it?

This was the challenge that faced our parents and children, this morning in class. Look on our blog to see what we made.

Space Virtual Reality

Date: 1st May 2019 @ 3:24pm

We had an amazing time today exploring The Solar System using Virtual Reality!

Using our own individual headsets, we went on a tour of our Solar System, finding out fascinating facts about the different planets and their moons. It was such a fantastic way of learning about space!

A Virtual Reality Trip to Space!

Date: 1st May 2019 @ 1:47pm

Today year 5 were fortunate enough to visit Space!

We all used virtual reality headsets to explore our Solar System, and learn amazing facts about the different planets around us.

It was very exciting!

Bring a toy to school day!

Date: 1st May 2019 @ 9:14am

Because we are learning about toys in our connected curriculum lessons we were allowed to bring in our toys from home. We had so much fun playing with our toys and sharing them with our friends! We were comparing our toys to toys from the past and thinking about whether our grandparents would have played with these toys.

Creating and Making Morning Job

Date: 30th Apr 2019 @ 8:49pm

Only 2 days to go until our Marvellous Minibeast Morning Job. We'd love it if you could come in to help us create minibeasts!

Super Scientists Observation Forms

Date: 30th Apr 2019 @ 8:23pm

Today we became real scientists by filling in mini-beast observation forms. We used observation skills by looking carefully at photos of minibeasts, by counting how many legs and wings and then writing about the colour of the minibeasts.

Then, at the end of the day, we shared our knowledge with each other by reading out the questions on the form and the answers we had written. As you can see we are very proud of our work!

Toy shopping

Date: 26th Apr 2019 @ 2:11pm

This week Year 1 have been learning about the names of old and new toys by pretending to buy and sell them in our very own shop.

What can we do with a box?

Date: 25th Apr 2019 @ 10:43am

Can you guess what we are making today?

We decided to create a learning area in our classroom because it wasn't how we wanted it to look. We are really interested in minibeasts so we are going to create an area that we can learn about them in. The first step is to create the kind of habitat we think they need to live in.

What do you think the box will become?

Who? Where? How?

Date: 24th Apr 2019 @ 1:11pm

This afternoonn we played a game of Who? Where? How?

First you play a sound and then you close your eyes and imagine who is making the sound, where they are and how they are making the sound.

Can you guess our sound?

Weighing and Measuring in the classroom

Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 8:51pm

Today our classroom challenges were to use our measuring skills.

We used the balance scales to find out about lighter and heavier objects, we compared the length of the 'green water snake' with our models and we created towers that were shorter or taller than Ruby Rabbit.

Lainy Ladybird loves learning

Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 8:43pm

Today Lainy brought some fun games in to class to play with. We've been creating maths games using her ladybird resources.

Flower Collages

Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 3:03pm

As part of our topic about plants we have created collages of flowers. We used paint to create the background and magazines to the create the flower itself. Take a look at some of the collages we created.

Summer 1 Spellings

Date: 23rd Apr 2019 @ 8:21am

Welcome back to school!

Keep working hard on these spellings every week. Tests will be on Monday.

All your hard work at home really makes a big difference!

Holiday homework!

Date: 8th Apr 2019 @ 9:05am

We have been learning all about transport this term. For holiday homework we would like the children to make something linked with transport. You can be as creative as you would like!

Some potential ideas:

Make a new type of transport

Make an information poster about a type of transport

Use junk modelling to make a form of transport

Research an old type of transport and compare it to transport today

Write a story about a time of transport

Tell us about a time that you used a type of transport

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Busy, busy, busy!

Date: 5th Apr 2019 @ 11:53am

What a busy week we have had!

On Tuesday we had the Easter Bonnet Parade and the Easter Craft Competition, it was lovely to see so many parents coming to support the events. I haven't forgotten that we said we would do an Easter Bonnet Parade for parents next year!

As part of there Connected Curriculum topic the children in Y4 organised a cake sale to raise money for Water Aid and Y5 organised an art auction to raise money for Refugee Action.

Today we had three assemblies to celebrate outstanding attendance. Any child who had 98% attendance or above presented their grownup with a certificate to say thank you for getting them to school every day.

I can't believe we are nearly in the Summer term, this year is flying by.

Have a lovely Easter and we will see you all on 23rd April.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Date: 5th Apr 2019 @ 11:11am

We had such fun!

Our Roman Visitors!

Date: 4th Apr 2019 @ 10:13am

For our Roman experience, we were lucky enough to meet 2 Roman soldiers! We found out what Roman soldiers and Celtic warriors wore and we got the chance to try on some Roman armour. It was really heavy! One of them even led us into battle and taught us different battle formations! It was a battle between the boys and girls. Girls were not allowed to join the Roman army but the girls at Ravensbury won!

Raising money for Refugee Action!

Date: 4th Apr 2019 @ 9:51am

On Tuesday, we held an Art Exhibition to raise money for Refugee Action by selling framed prints of our Greek landscapes artwork, inspired by Nikolas Georgoudakis. As part of our study of Greece, we found out that many refugees go to Greece in order to find safety from their own countries where they may experience war or religious persecution. We watched some CBBC Newsround interviews with two boys who are refugees in Greece and found out a bit about their story. We thought it would be a brilliant idea to try and help refugees who are finding safety in Manchester by raising money for this charity.

We managed to raise a grand total of...

*** £231.12 ***

At the beginning of the Summer Term, we will have a representative from Refugee Action visit the school to meet the children and collect the donation.

Thank you SO MUCH for your support in helping us raise money for this brilliant charity.
