Maths Daily Challenge – Wednesday 15th July

Date: 14th Jul 2020 @ 7:07pm

Wednesday 15th July

Good Morning Nursery!

This week in Maths we are beginning to use everyday language related to money.

Yesterday we looked at the story ‘The Great Pet Sale’. If you missed the story or would like to listen to it again then click on the picture below:

There were lots of pets for sale in the story. Have a look at the pets with their price attached. Can you recognise the numbers and say how much they cost? Remember the letter ‘p’ is for pence.

Today we are going to play a game. You will need to ask your grown up for 10 pennies to play this game.

Count out the pennies one at a time saying a number name for each one.

Which pet could you buy for 10p?

Count out 2 pennies. Which pet could you buy for 2p?

Count out 5 pennies. Which pet could you buy for 5p?

Repeat the game for the different pets, counting the right amount of coins to match the price of the animal. You can use the pictures from the story below showing the animal and its price.

Fantastic!

Challenge: Choose your favourite pet from the story and draw a picture of it. Then have a look and say how much it costs. Make a price tag and write the number on the tag. Can you count out pennies to match the number on the tag?
